Sometimes you just want to try something new. If you’re bored of vases and want to mix things up a bit, why not check out a floral box arrangement?
Floral Boxes are Gorgeous
Floral box arrangements are just what they sound like – flower arrangements in beautiful reusable boxes. They’re becoming very popular for several reasons:
- They offer a pretty but interesting take on floral displays
- They make excellent gifts for loved ones, and they won’t have to worry about finding a vase to put them in
- They make excellent centrepieces for special occasions, or just to make you smile!
- They can work with all kinds of flowers
- They come in different sizes, so you can find one that works well for the space
- They can last much longer than usual as flower boxes have their own water source.
There are a few things you need to know about how to keep your flowers fresh in boxes. With some care and attention, you can get the maximum enjoyment out of your floral box arrangement.
Here are some hints and tips:
Get the Temperature Right
Getting the temperature correct is vital to make your flowers last longer. It’s best to keep your flowers away from extreme temperatures if you can. Don’t keep them in a hot sunny room, or a room that has a fire – and avoid putting them anywhere near the radiators or air conditioning units if you have one.
Keep Your Flowers Watered
Your flowers will come with oasis foam, which keeps the stems in place. This foam also provides water for your flowers, keeping them fresh.
They should arrive nicely watered, but the foam will dry out over the course of a few days, especially in summer. Keep checking on the foam every few days by placing your finger amongst the flowers, adding water as it feels dry to touch. Add small amounts of water throughout the foam to make sure that all the flowers have access to the water they need to thrive.
Flowers Last Longer out of Direct Sunlight
Cut flowers do not love direct sunlight. Keep them away from direct sun if you can – don’t put them on a windowsill, for example. On a table in the centre of a room is an ideal location.
Prune your Floral Box
If you spot any wilting flowers, simply pluck them out. Gas is released as a flower starts to wilt, which can cause nearby flowers to wilt as well so best to get any wilted flowers out quickly. If you can monitor this situation, you may be able to make the whole arrangement last a lot longer than they would have done if left to their own devices.
Eventually your flowers will dry out, and some will still look perfect! You can either keep your dried arrangement in the box to enjoy or remove the foam (to use on another occasion) and compost the flowers then keep the box for use somewhere else. Voila!
