Weddings are big occasions, and most couples want things to be planned as perfectly as possible and for everything to go off without a hitch. While the ceremony and the guests are important, so are the flowers you choose, everything from the table arrangements and bouquet to the groom’s buttonhole.
Here we look at the most popular choices when it comes to wedding flowers and how these can make a big difference to your day.
Wedding Flowers - Roses
While they’re a symbol of romance, roses are most often associated with Valentine’s Day but they are also a good choice for your wedding. White roses in particular are becoming increasingly popular and are wonderful for table decorations. As long as you don’t mind the thorns, they can also make an amazing bouquet.
Wedding Flowers - Peonies
Another popular choice for weddings is peonies. Delicate and just perfect for the big day, the trouble is that they can also be very expensive. If you’re splashing out, you may want them for the reception table but a small bouquet for the bride can also look sensational.
Wedding Flowers - Anemones
If you are looking for something striking and perhaps a little more modern and less feminine, then anemones might be your wedding flower of choice, particularly for the bouquet and buttonholes. These flowers stand out like no other with their white petals and black centre and do look very stylish.
While they are readily available, the petals are extremely delicate and can fall off at the wrong moment, so more care and attention need to be taken. They can also be mixed with other flowers to create a very special bouquet.
Wedding Flowers - Lilacs
If fragrance and delicate flowers are your primary thought for the wedding bouquet or table centrepiece, then you can’t go wrong with lilacs. You can hark back to a more traditional and simpler time with shades of purple and white, although again the flowers are a little on the delicate side.
Wedding Flowers - Sweet Peas
Similar to lilacs in terms of their delicacy, sweet peas are another option that is growing in popularity for weddings. This is perfect if you are looking for a simple flower arrangement that has plenty of fragrance and is not going to cost the earth. The variegated leaves allow for a depth of colour and if combined with something like a silk ribbon can be extremely attractive.
Wedding Flowers - Tulips
While the classic shape may not be to your liking, there are actually several different varieties that look completely different. If you want to add a splash of colour to your wedding day, these are a great option and are not as expensive as other choices.
Wedding Flowers - Orchids
These wonderfully fragrant flowers fell out of favour for weddings a while back. However, there has been something of a resurgence in recent times and including some in your flower arrangements isn’t the faux pas that it once was. There are plenty of amazing shades to choose from and they can quickly turn your wedding bouquet into a chic fashion statement.
